Trump’s Commendation Underscores Tinubu’s Resolve to Defeat Terrorism – TDF By Raymond Enoch
The Democratic Front (TDF) has described the reported commendation by United States President Donald Trump on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s counterterrorism efforts as a strong endorsement of the Federal Government’s determination to eliminate terrorism and restore lasting peace across Nigeria.
The group said the message from the US President reflects growing international recognition of the Tinubu administration’s commitment to strengthening national security and tackling terrorism through enhanced military operations and strategic diplomatic engagement.
In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Wale Adedayo, TDF said the commendation came at a period when President Tinubu’s campaign against terrorism and insecurity had recorded significant progress both within Nigeria and across the West African sub-region.
According to the group, the development reinforces its belief that earlier controversial remarks attributed to President Trump about Nigeria’s security situation were influenced by misinformation and deliberate attempts by political actors to portray the country negatively before the international community.
TDF maintained that President Tinubu responded to the diplomatic tensions with restraint, maturity and constructive engagement, leading to improved relations between Nigeria and the United States.
The organisation noted that enhanced Nigeria-US security cooperation, particularly in intelligence sharing and precision counterterrorism operations, has contributed to the disruption of terrorist camps operating around Nigeria’s borders with Niger, Chad, Cameroon and Benin Republic.
It added that the collaboration has strengthened the intelligence-gathering capacity of Nigeria’s security agencies, resulting in more effective operations against terrorist groups and bandits.
According to the group, the declining rate of security breaches in several parts of the country demonstrates that the administration’s security strategy is producing measurable results.
TDF further described the reported commendation from President Trump as international validation of what it called the Tinubu administration’s achievements in combating insecurity since assuming office in May 2023.
The group argued that the recognition would further boost confidence in Nigeria’s ongoing security reforms while encouraging sustained collaboration with international partners in the fight against terrorism.
It also alleged that the development dealt a setback to opposition politicians whom it accused of attempting to exploit insecurity for political advantage ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While urging Nigerians to remain united behind the nation’s security institutions, TDF called on citizens to reject what it described as efforts to politicise insecurity, stressing that the fight against terrorism should remain a collective national responsibility rather than a partisan issue.
