President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the recruitment process for 3,252 verified Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) teachers into the Federal Public Service, a move expected to significantly strengthen the teaching workforce in Nigeria’s Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, described the approval as a landmark intervention that reflects the President’s commitment to revitalising the education sector and addressing the persistent shortage of teachers in federal secondary schools.
Speaking on the development, Dr. Alausa said priority would be given to verified PTA teachers, many of whom have served in Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges for nearly 25 years without formal absorption into the public service.
“This is a President who cares deeply about Nigeria and the future of our country. By approving this recruitment process, President Tinubu has demonstrated his commitment to investing in teachers and improving the quality of education for Nigerian children,” the Minister stated.
According to him, the approval followed a comprehensive verification exercise conducted by an Inter-Ministerial Committee, which confirmed 3,252 eligible PTA teachers across the cadres of Education Officers, Assistant Education Officers and Technical Instructors.
He explained that integrating the experienced teachers into the mainstream public service would help preserve institutional knowledge, improve teacher-student ratios and enhance learning outcomes in Federal Unity Colleges nationwide.
Dr. Alausa noted that the recruitment forms part of the Tinubu administration’s broader education reform agenda under the Renewed Hope programme, aimed at repositioning federal colleges as centres of academic excellence.
While expressing gratitude to President Tinubu for approving the recruitment process, the Minister assured the affected teachers that the Federal Ministry of Education would work with relevant government agencies to complete the remaining statutory procedures required for their formal appointment.
He stressed that the regularisation exercise would be carried out transparently and in full compliance with extant public service regulations.
The Minister reiterated that no education system can rise above the quality of its teachers, adding that the Federal Government remains committed to strengthening the teaching profession through policies that improve teachers’ welfare, motivation and professional development.
He also reaffirmed the Ministry’s determination to ensure that every child in Nigeria’s Federal Unity Colleges receives quality education delivered by competent, motivated and professionally supported teachers.
The approval is expected to bring relief to thousands of PTA teachers who have served for decades under uncertain conditions, while providing a major boost to teaching capacity and learning standards across Nigeria’s Federal Unity Colleges.
