TCN Sets Katampe, Gombe-Damaturu-Molai Maintenance, Power Disruptions Loom in Abuja, Yobe By Raymond Enoch
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has scheduled maintenance operations on two critical transmission facilities in Abuja and Yobe State, with temporary electricity disruptions expected across several communities on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
In Abuja, TCN will carry out its annual preventive maintenance on the Katampe-Gwarinpa 132/33kV Line 2 bay switchgears and associated equipment at the Katampe 1 132/33kV Transmission Substation.
The exercise is scheduled for 10:00am to 4:00pm, during which the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to off-take electricity to customers in parts of Dawaki, Dutse Alhaji, Gwarinpa, Kubwa, Arab Road, Bwari, Mopol Barracks, Jiwa, Suleja Township, FCT College of Education, Field Base, Madalla, Zuba and environs.
TCN said the Katampe intervention is part of its annual preventive maintenance programme aimed at keeping transmission equipment in sound operating condition and improving the reliability of electricity supply.
In a separate operation in Yobe State, TCN maintenance crews will work on the Gombe-Damaturu-Molai 330kV Line 1 from 10:00am to 2:00pm.
The intervention will enable TCN contractors to work on the Power Line Carrier (PLC) system and rehabilitate the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system on the transmission line.
Consequently, the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) will be unable to off-take electricity to customers in Damaturu and environs during the four-hour maintenance period.
While the Katampe project centres on preventive maintenance of transmission bay switchgears and associated equipment, the Gombe-Damaturu-Molai intervention focuses on strengthening the communication and control systems supporting the 330kV transmission line.
TCN appealed to electricity consumers in the affected areas to bear with the temporary disruptions, describing the interventions as necessary for the continued reliability and efficiency of the transmission network.
The company also apologised for the inconvenience the scheduled maintenance activities may cause consumers.
