TCN Explains Kano Power Outage, Reveals Damaged 132kV Line After Storm By Raymond Enoch

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Kano Region, has attributed the ongoing power outage affecting parts of Kano Metropolis to a system trip on the 132kV Kumbotso–Dan Agundi Line 1 following heavy rainfall and strong winds.

TCN said the fault occurred at about 10:05 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2026, when the transmission line tripped on earth fault.

According to the company, the affected line was immediately isolated to enable its maintenance team to conduct a comprehensive patrol and identify the source of the fault.

The patrol, which was completed on Tuesday, September 23, led to the discovery of a tilted cross-arm and a snapped conductor at two separate locations between Towers T707 and T708.

TCN explained that the damaged cross-arm must first be removed and reinstalled before the required repairs to the transmission line can be completed.

The company said it had, however, taken steps to reduce the impact of the outage on electricity consumers, particularly residential customers and commercial areas across Kano Metropolis.

It disclosed that allocated loads from the 33kV feeders at the 132kV Dan Agundi Transmission Substation had been successfully transferred to other available 132kV substations within the franchise area of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company.

TCN said the load-transfer arrangement would help minimise the effect of the forced outage on consumers while repair works continue.

The transmission company apologised to affected consumers for the inconvenience caused by the outage, assuring them that its maintenance teams were working to complete the necessary repairs and restore normal bulk power supply as soon as possible.
