ECOWAS Club Launches Inaugural “48 Hours” Event at Gaston Berger University, Senegal.

The inaugural edition of the “48 Hours” event, organized by the ECOWAS Club of Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis, Senegal, took place on February 7–8, 2025.
The event aimed at fostering regional integration, cooperation, and peace in West Africa, engaging students, policymakers, and institutional leaders.
H.E. Mrs. Zelma Fassinou, ECOWAS Resident Representative in Senegal, attended the event alongside distinguished experts such as Ambassador Saliou Cissé, General Jean Moussa Diop, and Professor Alioune Sall, a former judge at the ECOWAS Court of Justice.
The discussions centered on using diplomacy as a tool for peace, enhancing student mobility across the region, and strengthening cooperation among universities.

A key take away from the forum was the need for increased youth participation in policy making and conflict resolution. The event also provided a cultural showcase through exhibitions and performances, reinforcing the rich diversity within ECOWAS member states.

Concrete recommendations emerged, including the establishment of student exchange programs and deeper academic collaboration to strengthen regional integration.
