Zone 7 Police Headquarters Reinforces Discipline, Professionalism, Community Policing at Monthly Lecture By Raymond Enoch
The Nigeria Police Force Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, has reaffirmed its commitment to discipline, professionalism and community policing as essential pillars for effective policing and improved public trust.
This formed the focus of the Monthly General Lecture organised for officers and men of the Zone, where personnel were charged to uphold integrity, accountability and ethical conduct in the discharge of their duties.
Addressing officers during the session, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7, AIG Victor Olaiya, stressed the need for renewed dedication to service, respect for human rights and adherence to the rule of law in all policing activities. He noted that modern policing requires officers to remain professional, disciplined and people-oriented at all times.
The AIG explained that effective policing can only thrive where there is mutual trust and collaboration between the police and members of the public. According to him, community policing remains a vital strategy for tackling emerging security challenges and improving intelligence gathering across communities.
He further encouraged officers to embrace teamwork, operational readiness and continuous self-improvement, while leveraging emerging technology to enhance crime prevention and investigation. The lecture also highlighted the importance of transparency, empathy and accountability in maintaining public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
The session featured discussions on preventive policing, public safety, care and custody of suspects, professional ethics and collaboration with other security agencies as part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening service delivery within the Force.
AIG Olaiya warned that acts capable of undermining public confidence in the police would not be tolerated, reiterating the command’s resolve to reward diligence and professionalism while ensuring sanctions for misconduct and indiscipline.
The Monthly General Lecture forms part of ongoing efforts by Zone 7 Headquarters to build a more responsive, accountable and community-focused police institution in line with the reform agenda of the Nigeria Police Force.
