Wale University Charges Graduates to Turn Knowledge into Impact By Raymond Enoch
Wale University has charged its graduating fellows to move beyond academic achievement and use knowledge, innovation and leadership to create meaningful impact in society.
The Provost of Wale University, Dr Gabriel Akinremi, gave the charge on Saturday, August 29, 2026, in Abuja Nigeria at the WaleLab Research to Impact Graduation Ceremony, held under the theme, “Celebrating Excellence, Impact & the Journey Ahead.”
Akinremi congratulated the graduating fellows for their commitment, resilience and growth, noting that the challenges they encountered throughout the programme had strengthened their determination and capacity to succeed.
He said the essence of education goes beyond acquiring knowledge or certificates, stressing that it should equip people to think critically, solve problems, collaborate, lead responsibly and contribute positively to society.
The Provost particularly highlighted the role of mentorship in the fellows’ development, describing mentors as important influences who can shape careers, confidence, character and future opportunities.
He commended the mentors, WaleLab team and other stakeholders for creating an environment where young people could learn, experiment with ideas, collaborate and grow.
Addressing the graduands, Akinremi urged them to regard the graduation as the beginning of a new chapter rather than an end, advising them to carry forward the courage to innovate, discipline to work diligently and commitment to continuous learning.
According to him, society needs people capable of identifying problems and developing solutions while deploying technology, communication and collaboration with honesty and integrity.
He urged the graduates to measure success not only by personal achievements but also by the value they create for others and their communities.
“Whenever an opportunity comes your way, do not only ask, ‘What can I gain?’ Also ask, ‘What can I contribute?’” he told the graduands.
The ceremony also featured recognition of fellows for outstanding achievements in innovation, research and impact, teamwork, improvement and leadership.
Akinremi said the awards demonstrated that excellence could take different forms, encouraging every graduand to identify their strengths, develop them and deploy them meaningfully.
He further urged the graduates to remain connected to their mentors and one another and become worthy ambassadors of the values and lessons acquired at WaleLab.
“Let your work speak for you. Let your character speak even louder. And let your impact show what is possible when knowledge, mentorship, hard work, and opportunity come together,” he said.
The Provost expressed hope that the graduates would look back on the occasion not merely as the day they received certificates, but as a defining moment when they discovered new possibilities within themselves.
He wished the graduating fellows a future marked by excellence, meaningful impact, good leadership and continuous learning, while urging them to make their knowledge count in the wider society.
