NYSC Postpones 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Orientation Course in Niger State By Raymond Enoch
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has postponed the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Orientation Course for Prospective Corps Members deployed to Niger State following extensive damage to its orientation camp in Paiko caused by a recent windstorm.
The postponement, which affects thousands of prospective corps members expected to commence their national service in the state, was announced as authorities move to restore the camp to a condition suitable for the orientation exercise.
According to a statement made available to the media by Caroline Embu, Director, Information and Public Relations of the National Youth Service Corps, the decision became necessary due to the ongoing renovation of the camp by the Niger State Government after the devastating impact of the windstorm.
The NYSC said urgent efforts are underway to secure an alternative venue where the orientation programme can be conducted without compromising the safety and welfare of participants.
While a new date for the commencement of the exercise has yet to be announced, the scheme assured affected Prospective Corps Members that all necessary information regarding the rescheduled programme and venue would be communicated in due course.
The management of the NYSC expressed regret over the inconvenience the postponement may cause to prospective corps members and their families, while thanking them for their patience, understanding and cooperation.
The orientation course marks the first phase of the mandatory one-year national service and provides corps members with training in leadership, national integration, security awareness and community development before deployment to their places of primary assignment. Officials say every effort is being made to ensure that the programme resumes as soon as suitable arrangements are concluded.
