NECO Launches Computer-Based Test for Senior School Certificate Examinations By Beauty Akporido Aroh
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has commenced the conduct of Computer-Based Tests (CBT) for the Senior School Certificate (SSC) examinations, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s transition to technology-driven assessment.
The rollout of the CBT format is part of the Federal Government’s broader education reform agenda aimed at modernising the nation’s examination system, strengthening assessment integrity and reducing examination malpractice.
The introduction of the computer-based examination reflects NECO’s commitment to aligning its assessment processes with global best practices while improving the efficiency, credibility and security of public examinations.
Education stakeholders have described the initiative as a major step towards digital transformation in the sector, noting that it will enhance transparency, speed up result processing and provide candidates with a more contemporary testing experience.
The transition follows months of preparations, including the deployment of digital infrastructure, training of personnel and sensitisation of schools and candidates across the country.
The Federal Ministry of Education has consistently maintained that the adoption of CBT for national examinations is expected to curb malpractice, improve monitoring and ensure that Nigeria’s assessment system keeps pace with international standards.
NECO has assured candidates, schools and parents of its readiness to deliver a seamless examination process, urging all stakeholders to cooperate with officials to ensure the successful implementation of the new examination format.
