Diplomatic Cooperation: ECOWAS President Touray Receives Cuba, Angola, and Ethiopia Envoys in Abuja.

In bit to strengthen and reinforce intercontinental alliances, ECOWAS Commission President, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, received the ambassadors of Cuba, Angola, and Ethiopia at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on March 4, 2025.
The high-level meeting, focused on enhancing cooperation, highlighted shared interests in sectors ranging from health to business and economic integration.

H.E. Miriam Morales Palmero, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, emphasized the potential for expanding collaboration in the health sector. She specifically noted Cuba’s ongoing partnership with the West African Health Organisation (WAHO), underscoring the importance of sharing expertise and resources in improving healthcare across the region.
On the economic front, H.E. José Bamoquina Zau, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Angola, shed light on the upcoming US-Africa Business Summit, set to take place in Luanda. The summit, he said, would provide a unique platform for strengthening business ties between Africa and the United States, with the aim of boosting economic exchanges and fostering development.
Meanwhile, H.E. Legesse Geremew Haile, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, expressed his country’s enthusiasm to collaborate more closely with ECOWAS. Ethiopia, with its burgeoning economy and strong diplomatic ties in Africa, sees significant opportunities for mutual growth and cooperation within the ECOWAS framework.
In his remarks, President Touray reaffirmed ECOWAS’ unwavering commitment to regional integration, advocating for free trade and the seamless movement of goods and people. He expressed optimism about the future of these partnerships and their role in advancing the shared vision of peace, prosperity, and sustainable development across West Africa and beyond.
As global cooperation continues to evolve, the meeting marked a promising step in fostering closer ties between ECOWAS and these key African and global players.
