APC Legal Adviser Hails Musawa’s Daura Honour, Calls Her ‘Queen Amina of Our Time’ By Raymond Enoch
The National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Murtala Aliyu Kankia, has congratulated the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, on her conferment with the prestigious traditional title “Mairamar Kasar Hausa I”, meaning First Daughter of Hausa Land, by the Emir of Daura, Dr Umar Faruk Umar.
Kankia described the honour as a significant recognition of Musawa’s growing profile and her contributions to the promotion and preservation of the cultural heritage of Hausa land.
In a congratulatory message, the APC National Legal Adviser said he had always believed that Musawa would rise to a position where she could effectively represent and project the rich heritage and identity of the Hausa people.
> “I know one day she will earn a position representing Hausa land and its heritage,” Kankia said.
He said the conferment was particularly significant given Musawa’s current responsibility as Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, describing her portfolio as strategically important to Nigeria’s efforts to harness its cultural assets, tourism potential and creative industries for national development.
Kankia further recalled that Musawa had at various times been described as “Queen Amina of our time,” drawing a parallel with the legendary Hausa warrior queen, Amina of Zazzau.
According to him, the description reflects the high expectations surrounding Musawa’s public service and her capacity to champion the cultural identity, history and heritage of the Hausa people.
The traditional title was conferred on Musawa by the Emir of Daura, one of the foremost traditional institutions in northern Nigeria, further underscoring the cultural significance attached to the recognition.
The honour comes at a time when the Federal Government is placing renewed emphasis on culture, tourism and the creative economy as instruments for economic diversification, employment generation, national identity and sustainable development.
As Minister, Musawa oversees a broad portfolio covering Nigeria’s arts, cultural heritage, tourism assets and creative industries—sectors increasingly recognised as critical components of the nation’s economic transformation agenda.
Kankia urged the minister to regard the title not merely as a personal honour but as a call to greater responsibility and service to the people and heritage she has been entrusted to represent.
He expressed confidence that Musawa would continue to use her office to promote Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage while strengthening the contribution of the tourism and creative economy to national development.
He wished the minister success in her continued service to the nation and in the responsibilities that come with her new traditional honour.
