Police Launch Investigation into Five Tragic Dead at Agraragu Community Nassarawa State By Raymond Enoch

A peaceful evening in the Agyaragu community of Obi Local Government Area turned tragic as five young children were found dead inside an abandoned vehicle, prompting a full-scale investigation by the Nasarawa State Police Command.

The victims—Kamsi Onah (8), Somer Onah (6), Unice Udouchi (10), Nmasoma Nnaji (10), and Chioma Nnaji (8)—were discovered lifeless in a disused vehicle parked in the compound of a resident, Mr. Abu Agyeme. The devastating discovery was reported at around 5:30 p.m. by a local, Mr. Ozimna Ogbor.

Acting on the report, Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, ordered immediate action. Officers from the Agyaragu Divisional Headquarters rushed to the scene and found the children locked inside the vehicle. The victims were transported to Aro Hospital in Agyaragu, where doctors confirmed their deaths, suspected to be caused by suffocation.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the community, echoing a hauntingly similar incident from 2019 in Keffi, where two children lost their lives under comparable circumstances.

In a press release, CP Mohammed expressed profound sorrow and extended condolences to the grieving families. He has mandated a thorough investigation to uncover how the children accessed the abandoned vehicle and what led to their tragic end. He also urged parents, guardians, and vehicle owners to remain vigilant and ensure children are not left unsupervised around parked or disused vehicles.

Due to the severity of heat burns observed on the bodies, the remains were released to their families upon request for immediate burial.

Police have assured the public of transparency and urgency in their investigation as the community mourns the loss of five innocent lives.
