FG Moves to Transform TVET, Trains 120 Instructors in Modern Teaching Skills By Beauty Akporido Aroh

The Federal Government has intensified efforts to reposition Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) with the launch of a specialised capacity-building programme designed to equip instructors with modern teaching and assessment skills that meet global standards.

The initiative, tagged the “Train the Trainers (Pedagogy and Assessment) Programme,” is being implemented in partnership with the Institute of Education, Singapore, as part of ongoing reforms aimed at producing a highly skilled workforce to drive Nigeria’s industrial and economic development.

The 10-day intensive training is jointly organised by the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and the Institute of Education, Singapore.

A total of 120 TVET instructors from federal and state technical institutions are expected to benefit from the programme. The first cohort of 60 teachers is currently undergoing training in Abuja, while another 60 participants will undertake the programme in Lagos.

The training is designed to strengthen classroom delivery, improve assessment techniques and expose instructors to internationally recognised teaching methodologies that will enhance students’ practical competencies and employability.

The initiative forms part of the Federal Government’s broader strategy to revitalise technical education by improving the quality of instruction, promoting innovation and ensuring that graduates possess industry-relevant skills capable of addressing the nation’s manpower needs.

Education stakeholders described the programme as a significant step towards aligning Nigeria’s technical and vocational education system with global best practices, noting that strengthening the capacity of instructors is critical to producing a new generation of skilled artisans, technicians and entrepreneurs capable of driving national productivity and economic growth.
