The West African Power Pool (WAPP) Gets a New Boss

The West African Power Pool ( WAPP) has appointed Mr. Abdoulaye
Dia from Senegal as its new Secretary-General, effective December 2024. He will serve a renewable three-year term.
Mr. Dia’s appointment was announced during the 19th Session of the WAPP General Assembly in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The assembly emphasized the need for regional collaboration to establish a competitive electricity market in West Africa.
Prior to this role, Mr. Dia served as the Director of the Senegalese Electricity Company (SENELEC) and École Supérieure Interafricaine d’Électricité (ESIE) in Bingerville, Côte d’Ivoire. His extensive experience in the energy sector positions him to lead WAPP in advancing regional energy integration and addressing the growing electricity demands of the ECOWAS community.
WAPP, a specialized institution of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), includes 14 of the 15 ECOWAS member states. The organization aims to promote the development of a competitive regional electricity market and enhance energy security in West Africa.
