ACOE Congratulates Nigerians on 66th Independence Anniversary, Urges Unity By Raymond Enoch
The Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE) has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary, urging citizens to promote national unity, patriotism and democratic development.
The association also called on Nigerians to actively participate in the 2027 General Elections, stressing that citizens have a crucial role to play in shaping the country’s future through the democratic process.
ACOE Chairman, Comrade Sola Akingboye, made the call in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday to mark the anniversary.
Akingboye, while extending the association’s goodwill to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, said the independence anniversary provided an opportunity for citizens to reflect on the country’s journey, achievements and challenges since independence.
He urged Nigerians to remain committed to national unity and peaceful coexistence, irrespective of ethnic, religious, political or geographical differences.
According to him, Nigeria’s diversity should be viewed as a source of strength and an opportunity to build a more inclusive, peaceful and prosperous nation.
The ACOE chairman also emphasised the importance of citizens’ participation in elections, saying an active electorate was essential to strengthening democracy and promoting accountability among elected representatives.
He called on political actors, civil society organisations, the media and other stakeholders to promote issue-based campaigns, constructive engagement and peaceful participation before, during and after the elections.
Akingboye further urged Nigerians to shun violence, hate speech, misinformation and other actions capable of undermining national peace and democratic stability.
He said the media, particularly online platforms, had a responsibility to provide citizens with credible and accurate information while promoting responsible public discourse.
The chairman called on Nigerians to use the independence anniversary to renew their commitment to the country and contribute positively to its growth and development.
He reaffirmed ACOE’s commitment to responsible journalism, national unity and democratic values, urging citizens to work collectively towards building a peaceful, prosperous and united Nigeria.
Akingboye wished Nigerians a happy 66th Independence Anniversary and expressed optimism that the country would continue to overcome its challenges and realise its full potential.
