Oloyede Unveils Multi-Billion Naira Welfare Package for JAMB Staff Ahead of Exit By Beauty Akporido Aroh

Outgoing Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has unveiled an unprecedented multi-billion naira staff welfare package, including an investment of over ₦8 billion in employees’ retirement savings, as part of efforts to secure the future of the Board’s workforce.

Speaking at the regular meeting of the Examination Bodies and Libraries Trade Group Council of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) held at the JAMB National Headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, Oloyede said the welfare initiatives were designed to improve workers’ well-being, enhance productivity and guarantee financial security after retirement.

The JAMB Registrar, who is due to complete his statutory 10-year tenure on July 31, stressed that an organisation can only achieve lasting success when its workforce is adequately motivated and cared for.

According to him, the Board has consistently prioritised staff welfare through landmark initiatives, including the introduction of a 13th-month salary, improved examination allowances and sustained investments in workers’ pension accounts.

Oloyede disclosed that JAMB has committed more than ₦8 billion to strengthen employees’ retirement savings, with annual deposits running into billions of naira through their Pension Fund Administrators.

“We are making these investments so that when our staff retire, they will have something substantial to fall back on. Government must make honest service attractive by ensuring workers retire with dignity,” he said.

He maintained that the Board had always operated within the confines of the law while pursuing improved welfare packages, noting that due process remained central to every decision taken under his leadership.

The Registrar also reaffirmed his commitment to labour autonomy, declaring that he would never interfere in the selection or election of union leaders.

“I will never participate, directly or indirectly, in the selection of any union leader. Whoever emerges through the genuine democratic process is the person I will relate with because that person truly represents the people,” he stated.

He warned that leaders who betray the trust of those they represent ultimately lose credibility, insisting that integrity must remain the hallmark of leadership.

Oloyede further commended the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu for restoring gratuity payments to retiring federal workers and improving retirement benefits, describing the move as a significant boost to workers’ welfare.

Earlier, Chairman of NASU, JAMB Branch, Andrew Onakpa, applauded the Registrar for creating a conducive working environment and implementing far-reaching welfare reforms that have positively impacted staff.

The union also honoured Oloyede with an Award of Excellence and Distinguished Service in recognition of what it described as his transformative leadership and enduring contributions to the growth of JAMB and the welfare of its workforce.
