The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has taken decisive action after a disturbing video surfaced on social media, showing one of its patrol vehicles in Ondo State operating with a dangerously worn-out tyre. The footage, which quickly went viral, prompted a swift response from the Corps, which has made it clear that the incident is a serious violation of its safety standards.
In a statement by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, the FRSC condemned the use of the defective tyre, emphasizing that such lapses go against the Corps’ strict operational procedures designed to ensure the highest safety standards for both its staff and the public.
The Corps Marshal stressed that the FRSC operates on a zero-tolerance policy regarding safety violations and will not condone any compromises.
As part of the response, an immediate sanction was imposed on the Ondo State Sector Commander, who was held accountable for the lapse in vehicle maintenance under their jurisdiction. Furthermore, the Corps Marshal ordered the vehicle in question to be formally booked for the safety infraction, with the Sector Commander required to answer for such infraction resulting from their negligence.
The statement affirmed FRSC commitment to setting the highest standards for vehicle maintenance and safety, noting that the Corps remains a leader in ensuring road safety across Nigeria.
The management also pledged to maintain close oversight over all field commands, holding commanding officers to account for upholding the values and operational integrity of the Corps.
