FRCN Journalist Sandra Chukwugekwu Bags 2026 Outstanding Achievement Award for Excellence in Journalism, Service By Raymond Enoch

Senior broadcast journalist and Diplomatic Editor at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Comrade Sandra Chukwugekwu, has been honoured with the prestigious 2026 Outstanding Achievement Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to journalism, humanitarian service and national development.

The award was presented on Sunday, June 21, 2026, during the Parish Laity Council Funfair at All Saints Catholic Church, Zone 5, Dutse Alhaji, Abuja, in a colourful ceremony attended by parishioners, media professionals, family members and distinguished guests.

In a statement at the event, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Festus Okoye, described the honour as a “well-deserved recognition” of Comrade Chukwugekwu’s immense contributions to the Church, humanity and the nation. He commended her unwavering commitment to ethical journalism, community service and nation-building, noting that her impact extends far beyond the newsroom.

Presenting the award, Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Emmanuel Inja, praised the veteran broadcaster for her consistency in championing truth, accountability and responsible journalism. He said her professional excellence and dedication to the public interest have earned her respect within the media industry and beyond.

According to the organisers, Comrade Chukwugekwu has distinguished herself through incisive reporting on diplomacy, governance and development issues, while also demonstrating integrity, compassion and selfless service. As Manager News and anchor of the widely followed current affairs programme Africa This Week, she has continued to shape public discourse with balanced and impactful journalism.

Receiving the award, an emotional Comrade Chukwugekwu expressed profound appreciation to All Saints Catholic Church for the recognition, describing it as both a privilege and a renewed call to greater responsibility.

She reaffirmed her commitment to ethical journalism and public service broadcasting, stressing that the recognition would inspire her to work even harder in promoting truth, accountability and national development through the media.

The award recipient dedicated the honour to God, her family, mentors and colleagues whose encouragement and support, she said, have been instrumental throughout her professional journey.
