ECOWAS Reaffirms Support for Nigeria and Member States Against Unfounded Allegations

In a strong demonstration of regional solidarity, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) issued a statement today reaffirming its unwavering support for Nigeria and other member states in the face of what it described as “unfounded allegations.”

The statement, signed and released today 26th December 2025 in Abuja, emphasizes ECOWAS’s commitment to defending the sovereignty, integrity, and collective reputation of its members.

The Statement reaffirms the Commission stands
against allegations that Nigeria and other member states are sponsoring terrorism

The statement added that “the Commission stands firmly with Nigeria and other ECOWAS member states
region.leads, demonstrates the country’s commitment to peace and security across the
ECOWAS therefore refutes any suggestion that such a generous and for years, Nigeria has supported peace and security of several countries not only
refrain from making accusations that are not supported by any evidence. expresses deep concern over the allegations being made against Nigeria and
other ECOWAS member states in the West African subregion but also on the African continent.

Affirming Nigeria commitment to Regional Peace and security, the statement further added that “the recent
successes recorded by the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), which Nigeria
magnanimous country would become a state-sponsor of terrorism”

The statement of the ECOWAS Commission therefore calls on all states in the region to promote dialogue and stability and refrain from making accusations that are not supported by any evidence” it stated .

The declaration has been widely welcomed by officials in Nigeria and across the region.

Analysts see it as a timely reminder of the importance of regional unity in navigating an increasingly complex global security landscape.

With today’s reaffirmation of solidarity for Nigeria ECOWAS has sent a clear message: the bloc remains united in defending its members against any threats to their integrity and sovereignty.
