ECOWAS Energy Commissioner Visits ECREEE to Strengthen Regional Sustainability Efforts.

The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) was honored to host the ECOWAS Commissioner for Infrastructure, Energy, and Digitalization, Mr. Sediko Douka, in a significant visit to its headquarters in Praia, Cabo Verde. This visit reaffirms ECOWAS’ commitment to accelerating energy sustainability and infrastructure development across the region.

During the visit, ECREEE showcased its key projects that are leading the energy transition in West Africa. These initiatives span a wide range of areas, including renewable energy deployment, energy efficiency, the Desert-to-Power initiative, e-mobility, the circular economy, and the critical nexus of energy, water, and food security. ECREEE’s efforts are integral to achieving the ECOWAS region’s energy and climate objectives, with a strong focus on sustainable development.

Mr. Douka commended the Centre’s dedication to fostering cooperation in the energy sector, recognizing ECREEE as a vital player in the region’s energy transformation. Mr. Francis Sempore, Executive Director of ECREEE, emphasized the Centre’s strategic role in driving innovation and collaboration while aligning with ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Policies and global climate goals.

This visit marks another step towards a more resilient and sustainable energy future for West Africa, with ECREEE playing a pivotal role in ensuring the region’s energy security and climate progress.
