ECOWAS Deepens Regional Unity Through Cross-Border Cooperation Meeting in Abuja By Raymond Enoch

The Economic Community of West African States, Economic Community of West African States, has reaffirmed its commitment to regional integration and sustainable development through the Annual Regional Stakeholders’ Meeting of the ECOWAS Cross-Border Cooperation Support Programme held in Abuja.

The high-level meeting brought together representatives of Member States, National Border Offices, and ECOWAS officials to assess the implementation of cross-border cooperation initiatives under the ECBCSP 2023–2027 framework.

Discussions centred on strengthening collaboration among border communities and advancing projects designed to improve living conditions across West Africa’s border regions.

ECOWAS highlighted several ongoing community-based interventions, including the rehabilitation of schools and healthcare centres, construction of boreholes and wells, and expansion of sanitation infrastructure aimed at boosting socio-economic development and promoting peace in vulnerable border areas.

Participants stressed that effective cross-border cooperation remains critical to fostering regional stability, enhancing trade and mobility, and deepening integration among Member States.

The meeting also underscored ECOWAS’ broader vision of creating inclusive and resilient border communities capable of driving economic growth and regional harmony across West Africa.
