Côte d’Ivoire Consulate in Malta, Ghana Deepen Diaspora Diplomacy in Malta as Consulate Joins End-of-Year Celebrations By Raymond Enoch

In a gesture that underscored growing inter-African solidarity and diaspora-driven development, the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire in Malta participated in the end-of-year celebrations of the Ghanaian Association in Malta, marking a moment of renewed commitment to cooperation among African communities on the island.

The event, held on December 1, 2025, also witnessed the election of a new executive committee of the Ghanaian Association for a two-year tenure, reinforcing continuity in leadership and a shared resolve to strengthen community engagement, cultural exchange, and socio-economic collaboration.

Leading the Ivorian delegation was the Honorary Consul of Côte d’Ivoire in Malta, Mrqs. Anthony C. Coleiro, accompanied by Mr. Ousmane Dicko, the Consulate’s Attaché responsible for relations, interests, and the well-being of Ivorian diasporas in Malta and Gozo. They were warmly received by the outgoing president of the Ghanaian Association and Mrs. Henrietta Addobea Tetteh, Minister and Head of Chancery of the Ghana High Commission in Malta.

The Ghana High Commission, which represents the Government of Ghana in Malta, plays a central role in consular services, diplomatic engagement, and the promotion of economic and cultural cooperation between Ghana and Malta—an agenda that resonated strongly with participants at the gathering.

Beyond celebration, the event served as a strategic platform for dialogue on inter-African collaboration within the Maltese context. Discussions highlighted opportunities for closer cooperation between the Ivorian and Ghanaian communities, particularly in trade, cultural exchange, and diaspora welfare initiatives. Attention was also drawn to Ghana’s Beyond Aid programme, which seeks to stimulate partnerships between Ghanaian and Maltese industries and was identified as a potential framework for broader African economic engagement.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Honorary Consul Anthony C. Coleiro described the gathering as both symbolic and forward-looking.

> “It is a privilege to participate in this celebration, which not only brings together our vibrant African communities in Malta but also opens doors for enhanced collaboration between Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, and Malta,” he said. “Together, we can build bridges that support economic growth, cultural exchange, and the well-being of our diasporas.”

Observers noted that such engagements reflect a growing trend of diaspora diplomacy, where African missions and community associations work collaboratively to amplify their collective voice, promote integration, and contribute to development both at home and in host countries.

The Honorary Consulate of Côte d’Ivoire reaffirmed its commitment to sustained engagement with the Ghanaian Association, the Ghana High Commission, and other African diplomatic missions in Malta, with a view to translating dialogue into practical partnerships that benefit African diasporas and strengthen Africa–Malta relations.
