CLEEN Foundation Unveils New Board Leadership to Deepen Justice, Security Sector Reforms in Nigeria By Raymond Enoch

Nigeria’s foremost civil society organisation promoting public safety, justice reform and democratic governance, CLEEN Foundation, has announced a major leadership transition with the appointment of Dr. Jude Ohanele as Chairman of its Board of Directors and Mrs. Olufunke Baruwa as Vice Chairperson, signalling a renewed drive to strengthen institutional accountability and advance governance reforms across the country.

The appointments, announced in a statement issued in Abuja by the Foundation’s Executive Director, Peter Maduoma, mark a new chapter for the organisation as it positions itself to expand its impact in promoting public safety, human rights, security sector accountability and access to justice.

The Foundation also paid glowing tribute to the outgoing Chairman, Professor Abubakar Mu’azu, whose tenure was described as transformational. According to the statement, Professor Mu’azu provided strategic leadership that strengthened CLEEN Foundation’s institutional capacity, broadened its programme reach, deepened partnerships with national and international stakeholders, and reinforced the organisation’s reputation as a leading voice in justice and security sector reforms in Nigeria and across Africa.

The Foundation noted that his stewardship significantly advanced citizen-centred security initiatives while enhancing accountability and democratic governance.

Introducing the new Board Chairman, CLEEN Foundation said Dr. Jude Ohanele brings extensive experience in governance, leadership, organisational development and public service, qualities expected to guide the organisation through its next phase of institutional growth and strategic expansion.

Similarly, the appointment of Mrs. Olufunke Baruwa as Vice Chairperson was described as a strategic addition to the Board. A respected development practitioner and advocate for social justice, gender equality and human rights, Baruwa is expected to strengthen the Foundation’s governance framework and contribute to its long-term strategic direction.

Speaking on the leadership transition, Executive Director Peter Maduoma expressed appreciation to Professor Mu’azu for his exceptional service while welcoming the new Board leadership.

He said the combined experience, vision and commitment of Dr. Ohanele and Mrs. Baruwa would be invaluable as the Foundation intensifies efforts to build safer communities, strengthen accountable institutions and promote equitable access to justice.

The leadership transition comes at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with complex security challenges, governance concerns and increasing calls for institutional reforms. Analysts say the new Board will be expected to consolidate CLEEN Foundation’s advocacy on police reforms, human rights protection, democratic governance and citizen participation in public safety.

With the new appointments, CLEEN Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to driving sustainable reforms, promoting transparent governance and supporting initiatives that foster peace, justice and positive social change across Nigeria.
