NIMC Launches NINAuth to Revolutionize Digital Identity Verification, As Federal Government Mandates Use Across All MDAs By Raymond Enoch

In a decisive step toward fortifying Nigeria’s digital infrastructure, the Federal Government has launched the NIN Authentication Service (NINAuth)—a state-of-the-art identity verification platform developed by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

Approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the rollout of NINAuth is now mandatory for all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), signaling a transformative shift in national identity management and public service delivery.

NINAuth offers a secure, scalable, and interoperable suite of tools that enables real-time authentication of National Identification Numbers (NIN). The service is accessible via web, API, and mobile platforms, streamlining key processes such as SIM registration, immigration procedures, tax filings, passport applications, and driver’s license renewals.

According to NIMC, NINAuth is a cornerstone of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, reinforcing trust, transparency, and user empowerment in Nigeria’s digital identity systems. Key features include enhanced data security, user-controlled data sharing, and seamless access through single sign-on functionality—all designed to guard against unauthorized access while simplifying public engagement with essential services.

“With NINAuth, Nigerians can now securely verify their identities and gain easier access to a range of public services without compromising their personal data,” the Commission stated.

Crucially, the platform requires explicit user consent before any personal data is shared, in line with global privacy standards and Nigeria’s data protection regulations. This approach is expected to strengthen public trust and encourage widespread adoption.

The NINAuth mobile application is now available on the Google Play Store and Apple iOS Store, with comprehensive implementation guidelines provided at https://ninauth.nimc.gov.ng.

By establishing NINAuth as the exclusive platform for all NIN-based verification, the Federal Government is reaffirming its commitment to digital transformation, harmonized identity systems, and more efficient, transparent governance.
