As the sacred month of Ramadan begins, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has extended heartfelt Ramadan greetings to all Muslim members of the profession in the FCT.

In a statement, the Union emphasized the importance of using this period for spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and strengthening the values that bind the journalism community.

Comrade Grace Ike, the Chairman of the FCT Council, described Ramadan as a time for deep reflection, self-renewal, and commitment to both personal and professional integrity. “During this month of fasting and prayer, may our hearts be filled with gratitude for the bounties we receive and the opportunities we have to serve our communities with truth and fairness,” Grace Ike remarked, underscoring the significance of the month in reinforcing the principles of compassion, humility, and service.

Ike urged journalists to see this period not only as an opportunity for spiritual growth but also as a reminder of the core values that guide the journalism profession. She stressed the role of journalists in informing the public with accuracy, integrity, and empathy, which are essential in a world filled with challenges and misinformation.

“Ramadan is a time to renew our commitment to fairness, justice, and empathy—both in our personal lives and our professional practices,” Comrade Ike said. “It is also a time to remember that the work we do is a service to the public, a responsibility we must approach with deep care and understanding.”

Highlighting the unifying power of the month, Comrade Ike emphasized Ramadan’s role in fostering solidarity and compassion. She called on journalists to reflect on their roles not only as reporters but also as members of a larger community, working together to support one another and uplift those in need.

The Union also appealed to journalists of all faiths to use this period to strengthen unity within the media community and engage in collective reflection on their personal and professional responsibilities. “Let this Ramadan guide us towards wisdom, courage, and compassion as we continue to serve our audiences with integrity and accuracy,” the statement concluded.

The NUJ FCT Council extended prayers for peace, blessings, and prosperity to all Muslim faithful and their families, hoping that the spirit of Ramadan would inspire a deeper sense of unity and service in the media industry and beyond.
