In determined move to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties, the Chief of Mission of the Indian High Commission to Nigeria and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Ms. Vartika Rawat, paid a visit to the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, in the ECOWAS Commission headquarters

The high-level meeting, held in Abuja, underscores India’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with the West African regional body, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and security.

Discussions centered on fostering economic collaboration, capacity-building initiatives, and investment opportunities as viable solutions to addressing insecurity within the ECOWAS region.

Ms. Rawat emphasized India’s willingness to expand its economic footprint in West Africa, leveraging its expertise in technology, agriculture, and manufacturing to support the region’s development goals. “India sees ECOWAS as a strategic partner in Africa, and we are committed to deepening our cooperation to promote sustainable economic growth and regional stability,” she stated.

Dr. Touray welcomed the partnership, highlighting the importance of strengthening economic and security ties between ECOWAS and India. “Collaboration with key global partners like India is essential in tackling shared challenges, from economic development to regional peace and security,” he said.

The discussions also touched on India’s role in supporting ECOWAS member states through capacity-building programs, skill development initiatives, and infrastructure projects.

With India being one of the largest emerging economies, its partnership with ECOWAS is expected to unlock new opportunities for trade and investment in the region.

As both parties continue to explore new areas of collaboration, this renewed engagement is poised to bring significant benefits to West Africa, fostering economic resilience and regional stability.
