Strengthening Regional Collaboration: ECOWAS Commission President Dr Omar Alieu Touray Meets Former EBID Staff Delegation

In a bid to foster collaboration and harness valuable expertise, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, has hosted a delegation from the Association of Former Members of Staff of the Bank for Investment and Development of the Economic Community of West African States (EBID), known as AAMPB.The meeting took place at the ECOWAS Commission headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.

The delegation, comprising Mensan Kintoyon Amegavie, President of AAMPB, and Jean Milas N’Guessan, Advisor to the Association, sought to introduce their organization to Dr. Touray and explore potential areas of partnership. Established on November 2, 2018, and headquartered in Lomé, Togo, the AAMPB was created with the mission of serving as a bridge between former EBID staff and current officials of the Bank.

Highlighting the Association’s vision, Mr. Amegavie emphasized the importance of leveraging the vast experience and professional skills of former staff members. “Our ambition is to link generations, ensuring that our collective expertise is utilized for the benefit of EBID and the broader West African community,” he said.

The AAMPB president outlined the Association’s key activities and proposed a mutually beneficial partnership with the ECOWAS Commission. He presented Dr. Touray with a list of the Association’s members, a copy of their yearbook, and a detailed overview of areas where former EBID staff could contribute to the Commission’s initiatives.

Mr. Amegavie expressed gratitude to Dr. Touray for his leadership and ongoing efforts to promote development in the West African region. He reiterated the Association’s readiness to support the ECOWAS Commission in addressing challenges that hinder regional growth.

Dr. Omar Alieu Touray commended the establishment of the AAMPB, describing it as a valuable resource for the region. He welcomed the proposed partnership and emphasized the importance of collective strength in overcoming the hurdles facing West Africa.

“West Africa is a family; it must stay together and stick together. No one is strong alone. We are only strong when we are together. We will do everything in our power to overcome the difficulties facing the West African community,” Dr. Touray remarked.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties expressing optimism about the potential collaboration. Dr. Touray encouraged the AAMPB to share insights and contribute to the development agenda of ECOWAS, reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to fostering regional unity and progress.

This engagement underscores the importance of collaboration across generations and institutions to achieve sustainable development and strengthen the socio-economic fabric of West Africa.
