Following the expiration of the tenure of the State Executive Council of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Taraba Chapter, on November 27, 2024, the National Secretariat of the party has appointed a five-member Caretaker Committee to steer its affairs.
The committee was officially inaugurated on January 24, 2025, at the state secretariat in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital. Hon. Mamman Kefas Munga presided over the event, presenting the new leadership team following a directive signed by the party’s National Chairman, Mallam Falalu Bello, and National Secretary, Comrade Babatunde F. Ali.
In his acceptance speech, the chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Engr. Idris Umar, described the new leadership as a “new chapter” for the PRP in Taraba State. He pledged to uphold God’s guidance and blessings in steering the party’s affairs and preparing for victory in future elections.
“This is a new chapter,” Engr. Umar stated. “As a new leadership, we will put Almighty God first and seek His blessings for success in the party’s activities and future elections in Taraba State.”
He expressed confidence that the people of Taraba had embraced the PRP’s mandate and mission. With renewed commitment, Umar assured party members of their readiness to mobilize grassroots support for the 2027 general elections.
Engr. Umar also called on the people of Taraba State to support the PRP in its efforts to wrestle power from the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which he claimed had failed to deliver on its development agenda.
When questioned about the party’s strategy as an opposition in the state, Engr. Umar emphasized his role as an agent of change. He expressed confidence in mobilizing widespread support for the PRP, highlighting the party’s focus on prioritizing people, education, and development.
On the issue of financing the party’s operations, Umar reassured members of their commitment to the PRP’s ideology, emphasizing that they would maintain their principles regardless of limited resources or representation in government.
He further revealed that the committee’s mandate includes conducting elections at all levels of the party’s structure—unit, ward, local government, and state—promising to fulfill this task promptly.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Hon. Haruna Yunusa, a party stalwart, who expressed optimism about the party’s future in Taraba State.
