CHOGM 2026: Commonwealth Opens Media Accreditation for Antigua Summit By Raymond Enoch

Media accreditation has officially opened for journalists seeking to cover the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), scheduled to take place in St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, from November 1 to 4, 2026.

In a media advisory made available today, the Commonwealth Secretariat encouraged interested media representatives to apply as early as possible, with the accreditation window closing at 11:59 p.m. British Summer Time on September 17, 2026.

The Commonwealth Secretariat said journalists wishing to cover CHOGM 2026 can submit their applications through the official accreditation portal by September 17, 2026.

The biennial summit will bring together leaders from the 56 Commonwealth member countries under the theme, “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth.”

Leaders are expected to discuss practical measures to strengthen cooperation, promote sustainable investment and advance shared prosperity across the Commonwealth.

The opening of accreditation provides journalists and media organisations with an opportunity to position themselves for coverage of one of the Commonwealth’s major international political and diplomatic gatherings.

According to the organisers, applicants must complete the online accreditation form and provide information required for security and accreditation checks. Under Section 1 of the form, applicants are required to select “Media” as the Delegation Category and “International Media” as the Delegate Role.

In the Contact Information section, applicants are also required to enter media@commonwealth.int in the Accreditation Officer Email field.

The Commonwealth Secretariat, however, stressed that submission of an application does not guarantee accreditation. Successful applicants will receive confirmation after their applications have been reviewed and approved.

The organisers also stated that they will not sponsor journalists to attend CHOGM, leaving media representatives and their organisations responsible for travel, accommodation and other related expenses.

For accredited journalists, shuttle transportation will be provided between the Media Centre and relevant CHOGM venues. The organisers have also warned that drones will not be permitted at CHOGM venues.

With the summit expected to attract leaders from across the Commonwealth, CHOGM 2026 will provide an important platform for discussions on investment, economic cooperation, development, climate resilience, youth empowerment, governance and shared prosperity.

The Commonwealth has a combined population of approximately 2.7 billion people, with more than 60 per cent aged 29 or under. Its membership spans Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe and the Pacific, including 33 small states, many of which are island nations.

Journalists planning to cover the summit are therefore advised to complete the accreditation process well ahead of the September 17, 2026 deadline.
