FG Commends Kano’s Education Drive, Charges New Teachers on Professional Excellence By Beauty Akporido Aroh
The Federal Government has commended the Kano State Government for its unprecedented investment in education, describing the recruitment of thousands of teachers and the expansion of modern learning infrastructure as a bold step towards building a stronger, more competitive education system for Nigeria.
According to a statement issued by Ikharo Attah, Special Adviser on Media and Communications, the commendation came from the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, during the official presentation of appointment letters to 4,900 newly recruited teachers and 3,688 Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) Cohort V Facilitators in Kano.
Addressing the newly recruited teachers, Dr. Alausa stressed that teachers remain the foundation of every successful nation, urging them to embrace professionalism, dedication and compassion in shaping the next generation of Nigerians.
“You are the most important people in our society. If we have good teachers teaching Nigerian children, we will produce very good students. Please take your time, love them, nurture them and teach them well,” the Minister said, reminding the beneficiaries that greater responsibility comes with the opportunity they have received.
The Minister praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for prioritising education through substantial budgetary allocation and strategic reforms. He noted that Kano’s decision to devote 32 per cent of its budget to education reflects a clear commitment to human capital development and positions the state among the country’s leading education reformers.
Dr. Alausa observed that the recruitment of nearly 9,000 teachers and facilitators in the latest phase raises the total number employed by the present administration to 16,000 within three years, describing the achievement as one of the most significant teacher recruitment exercises undertaken by any state government in recent years.
“In some states, no single teacher has been recruited in decades. Here in Kano, the Governor has employed 16,000 teachers in just three years. This is what human capital development looks like,” he said.
Beyond education, the Minister also applauded the state’s investments in infrastructure, including the rehabilitation of major roads and the installation of solar-powered streetlights across Kano metropolis. He said these initiatives complement the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda by improving the quality of life of residents and creating a more conducive environment for learning and economic growth.
Earlier during his visit, Dr. Alausa inspected the Tarda Smart School in Ungogo Local Government Area, where he reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding technology-driven education nationwide. He described smart schools as essential to preparing Nigerian students with the digital and critical thinking skills required in the modern global economy.
The Minister also visited Bayero University, Kano, before commissioning the newly constructed Government Girls Secondary School, Dangwaro, which is expected to expand access to quality education for girls and strengthen secondary education in the state.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf described the recruitment exercise as a landmark achievement in his administration’s education reform programme, saying the appointments represent an investment in the future of millions of children across Kano State.
He explained that the recruitment of 4,900 permanent teachers and 3,688 BESDA Cohort V Facilitators demonstrates the government’s resolve to ensure every classroom is staffed with competent and qualified educators capable of delivering quality learning outcomes.
The Governor reaffirmed that education remains the centrepiece of his administration’s development agenda, stressing that every child deserves access to quality education in a conducive learning environment.
Governor Yusuf also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Ministry of Education, the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, and development partners for their continued collaboration in advancing educational development in Kano State.
Dr. Alausa concluded by assuring Nigerians that the Federal Ministry of Education would continue working closely with state governments and development partners to improve teacher quality, expand access to modern educational infrastructure and implement reforms that will deliver inclusive, equitable and globally competitive education across the country.
