NYSC DG Warns Corps Members to Stay Away from Politics, Embrace Financial Literacy By Raymond Enoch

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has warned Corps Members across the country to remain apolitical and avoid participating in political campaigns, rallies or any activity that could associate them with political parties. He also urged them to embrace financial literacy, responsible use of social media, entrepreneurship and investment opportunities to build a secure future.

According to a press statement signed by Caroline Embu, Director, Information and Public Relations, General Nafiu gave the warning while addressing the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Corps Members at the NYSC Lagos State Orientation Camp, Iyana-Ipaja. He stressed that the NYSC remains an apolitical organisation and cautioned Corps Members against mixing national service with partisan politics.

The Director-General also advised Corps Members to use social media responsibly, warning against cyberstalking, cyberbullying and cyber fraud, noting that anyone found guilty of such offences would face the full weight of the law.

He encouraged the Corps Members to remain disciplined, cultivate a savings culture and take advantage of the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme. He further urged them to explore investment opportunities in the capital market through the newly launched NYSC/Kudimata Capital Market Awareness Sensitisation Programme, describing it as an initiative designed to equip them with financial knowledge and the capacity to make informed investment decisions.

General Nafiu also called on the Corps Members to use their service year to promote national unity by building lasting friendships across ethnic and cultural divides.

The statement further disclosed that the NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs. Christianah Salmwang, informed the Director-General that a total of 9,955 Corps Members, including those undergoing orientation in other states, had been registered. She commended their enthusiasm, discipline and commitment to national service.
