NUJ FCT, Police Pensions Partner Against Pension Misinformation By Raymond Enoch
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, and Nigeria Police Pensions Limited have pledged stronger collaboration to improve public understanding of police pension administration and tackle misinformation surrounding pension issues in the country.
Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Grace Ike, made this known during a courtesy visit by journalists to the headquarters of Nigeria Police Pensions Limited in Abuja.
She described the media as a vital pillar in promoting transparency, accountability, and public enlightenment, stressing that the partnership would help ensure accurate information reaches Nigerians.
According to her, closer cooperation between journalists and pension administrators would strengthen democracy and promote dignity for retired officers.
Ike also expressed concern over challenges facing retired police personnel, including protests over pension welfare, assuring that the NUJ would continue to advocate fairness and timely payments for retirees.
Responding, the Managing Director of Nigeria Police Pensions Limited, Muhammed Dutse, said the organisation remained committed to transparency and welcomed media partnership to deepen public understanding of the contributory pension system.
He noted that pension issues, particularly police pensions, have become highly sensitive, adding that misinformation has continued to create confusion among retirees and the public.
Dutse appealed to journalists to support public enlightenment through balanced, factual, and investigative reporting.
Both organisations agreed to deepen cooperation in media engagement, public education, and accountability in pension administration.
