WATAF Honours ECOWAS President Touray for Driving West Africa’s Economic Integration By Raymond Enoch

The West African Tax Administrations Forum (WATAF) has honoured the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, for his visionary leadership and outstanding contributions to regional economic integration and development across West Africa.

The recognition was presented at the new ECOWAS Headquarters in Abuja on May 20, 2026, where WATAF commended Dr. Touray’s role in advancing regional cooperation, economic reforms, and policies aimed at strengthening sustainable growth and prosperity within the sub-region.

WATAF noted that the honour also reflects the deepening collaboration between the Forum and ECOWAS in reinforcing tax administration and customs systems across Member States. The partnership is focused on improving domestic revenue mobilisation, promoting fiscal transparency, and supporting stronger regional economies.

Stakeholders at the event described the recognition as a testament to ECOWAS’ continued commitment to building resilient institutions and driving economic transformation through strategic partnerships and regional integration initiatives.

The ceremony further underscored the increasing importance of coordinated fiscal policies and cross-border cooperation in addressing economic challenges and unlocking development opportunities across West Africa.
