Emi Lokan Lau Constituency: Hon Nuhu Akila Rantiyo, the Peoples Candidate 2027” By Raymond Enoch
The political slogan “Emi Lokan” popularised by Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2023 presidential election has continued to shape political conversations across Nigeria, especially among grassroots politicians and loyal party structures seeking recognition for years of sacrifice, loyalty and service.
Meaning “It is my turn,” the phrase became more than a campaign expression. It evolved into a democratic argument for political equity, continuity and reward for those who invested their time, resources and political strength in building structures and supporting others to attain power.
Today, in Lau Constituency of Taraba State, many supporters of Hon. Nuhu Akila Rantiyo are echoing the same political philosophy as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 political cycle.
To many political stakeholders, youth groups and community supporters across the constituency, Hon. Nuhu Akila Rantiyo remains the people’s candidate whose political journey, loyalty and contribution to grassroots mobilization have earned him the moral legitimacy to represent the constituency again in the Taraba State House of Assembly.
Political observers within Lau describe his emergence during the 2023 general elections as a reflection of organic grassroots acceptance and growing confidence in his leadership capacity. His strong performance at the polls and influence across several voting blocs were seen as evidence of widespread public trust and a clear indication that his political relevance continues to grow within the constituency.
Supporters insist that Hon. Rantiyo’s political structure was not built overnight. According to them, he remained active within the political space even during difficult periods when the All Progressives Congress (APC) struggled for visibility and acceptance in Taraba State.
They argue that while many politicians are now seeking political shelter under the APC platform because of its rising national influence, Hon. Rantiyo and a few committed loyalists sustained the party structure at the grassroots long before it became attractive to new entrants.
For many of his loyalists, this is where the “Emi Lokan” principle becomes politically relevant in Lau Constituency.
According to them, several individuals now aspiring for political positions under the same platform had at different times benefited from Hon. Rantiyo’s political support, mentorship and grassroots network. They believe political justice and fairness demand that such contributions should not be ignored.
A community stakeholder in Lau who spoke with jParadigm News said the agitation around Hon. Rantiyo’s candidacy is beyond ordinary politics.
“This is about loyalty, consistency and grassroots acceptance. When the party had challenges in Taraba, Hon. Nuhu Akila Rantiyo stood firm. Many people enjoying political relevance today benefited from his support. The people believe this is his time,” he stated.
Youth groups across parts of the constituency have also continued to describe him as accessible, community-driven and deeply connected to the aspirations of ordinary people.
His supporters further maintain that representative democracy should reflect the wishes of the people rather than political imposition, insisting that the growing calls for his return are products of public demand and not elite arrangements.
Observers say the unfolding political momentum around Hon. Rantiyo mirrors the same narrative that strengthened the national “Emi Lokan” movement — the belief that political investment, consistency and years of service should naturally translate into leadership opportunities.
As political realignments continue ahead of 2027, many within Lau Constituency believe the conversation is no longer about mere ambition, but about consolidating a political journey that resonates strongly with the people at the grassroots.
For his supporters, the message remains simple and direct: others had their opportunities, and now, “Emi Lokan” — it is Hon. Nuhu Akila Rantiyo’s turn.
