Lau 2027:Electorates Rally Behind Nuhu Akila Rantiyo, Urge Gov Kefas To Support His Emergence By Raymond Enoch
Political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections are already gathering momentum in Taraba State as electorates from Lau Local Government Area have openly appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas to support the re-election bid of the member representing Lau Constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly, Hon. Nuhu Akila Rantiyo.
The group, operating under the banner of “Concerned Lau Electorates,” insisted that the calls by some individuals and self-acclaimed political stakeholders endorsing another aspirant do not reflect the true wishes and collective aspiration of the majority of voters across Lau Constituency.
The position of the group was made public during a press briefing held at the residence of Mr. Daniel Ayuba iin Jalingo where representatives from different communities and political interest groups within Lau constituency gathered to declare their stand on the emerging political scenario surrounding the Lau constituency.
Addressing journalists during the briefing, spokesperson of the group, Malam Kabiru Mahmud, said the association comprises members drawn from diverse ethnic nationalities in Lau Local Government Area including the Bakula, Mumuye, Jenjo, Yandang and Hausa/Fulani communities among others.
Mahmud explained that the electorates resolved to speak with one voice in order to protect what they described as the long-standing zoning understanding guiding political representation in Lau Constituency.
According to him, allowing Hon. Nuhu Akila Rantiyo to complete a second term would not only sustain political stability in the constituency but also preserve fairness, unity and continuity in governance.
He noted that the endorsement of former lawmaker, Hon. Irmiya Ibrahim Hammanjulde, by certain stakeholders should not be interpreted as the position of the entire electorate, stressing that the majority of the people remain solidly behind the current lawmaker.
“The endorsement by a few persons does not represent the collective interest and aspirations of the people of Lau Constituency. We are calling on Governor Agbu Kefas to respect the existing zoning arrangement and support Hon. Nuhu Akila Rantiyo to complete his second term,” Mahmud stated.
The group further recalled that both Hon. Irmiya Ibrahim Hammanjulde and former Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Joseph Albasu Kunini, previously enjoyed massive support from the same political bloc and concerned electorates, which contributed significantly to their successful second and third term outings respectively.
They argued that political equity demands that the same opportunity be extended to the incumbent lawmaker in the spirit of justice and consistency.
Responding to questions from journalists, the convener of the group, Mr. Odoji Alkali, alongside Honourable Manga Suji, maintained that their endorsement of Governor Agbu Kefas and Hon. Nuhu Akila Rantiyo for second terms followed extensive consultations across wards and communities in Lau Local Government Area.
According to them, the decision represents the collective resolve of what they described as over eighty percent of the electorate in the area.
The duo stated that the people are satisfied with the leadership style of Governor Kefas and the representation being provided by Hon. Nuhu Akila Rantiyo, insisting that continuity would further consolidate ongoing development efforts in the constituency.
They emphasized that their movement was not targeted against any individual or political figure but rather aimed at safeguarding the political understanding that has helped maintain peace and balance within the constituency over the years.
Political observers believe the latest development may further shape the political permutations ahead of 2027, especially as consultations and alignments continue within major political circles in Taraba State.
The public declaration by the Concerned Lau Electorates is also being viewed as an indication that grassroots political mobilization has already commenced in several parts of the state despite the election still being months away.
The group reaffirmed its total loyalty and support to Governor Agbu Kefas and Hon. Nuhu Akila Rantiyo, pledging continued cooperation towards the promotion of good governance, political stability and sustainable development in Lau Local Government Area and Taraba State at large.
They equally called on political stakeholders, party loyalists and community leaders to prioritize unity, fairness and peaceful political engagement as the state gradually approaches another election cycle.
