Benue Goes Digital, Automates Land Title Processing for Faster Services By Raymond Enoch

The Benue State Government has rolled out a fully digital system for the award of land titles and title transfers, aimed at eliminating bureaucratic bottlenecks and reducing hardship in land administration across the state.

Mr. Terna Kawen, Director of Capacity Building and Stakeholders Engagement at the Benue Geographic Information Service (BENGIS), disclosed this on Wednesday in Makurdi.

Kawen said Governor Hyacinth Alia has directed total compliance with the newly introduced online application process for land titles and title transfers.

According to him, the initiative is being driven by BENGIS in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands and Survey and the Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC).

He explained that the system features a state-of-the-art online application portal that enables landowners and prospective applicants to process land titles and title transfers from anywhere.
“The portal, powered by BDIC, is accessible at www.bengis.benuestate.gov.ng and is designed to simplify land transactions, enhance transparency, and eliminate the rigours of repeated visits to the BENGIS office in Makurdi,” Kawen said.

He recalled that during a recent stakeholders’ meeting at Government House, Makurdi, Governor Alia expressed concern over the prolonged and cumbersome procedures that previously characterised the acquisition of land titles in the state.

Kawen noted that the governor stressed that the digitisation policy was intended to ease the burden on citizens and promote efficiency in land-related business across Benue.

He further stated that the governor has firmly directed that all applications for land titles and title transfers must now be processed exclusively through the online platform.

According to him, the new system allows applicants to submit requests, track the progress of their applications, and complete all required processes online from the comfort of their homes.

Kawen urged members of the public to take full advantage of the innovation, describing it as a significant step towards modern governance and improved ease of doing business in Benue State.
