Motorists Lauds FRSC Free Water Distribution, Says its Lifesaving Intervention on Nigerian Highways By Raymond Enoch

Motorists and passengers across major highways in Nigeria have commended the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for its Free Water Campaign, describing the initiative as a humane, timely and safety-driven intervention that has brought much-needed relief to road users during the peak Yuletide travel season.

In a statement issued today in Abuja and signed by Olusegun Ogungbemide, mni, FISPON, anipr, Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps said the initiative underscores FRSC’s evolving approach to road safety—one that places5 human welfare, alertness and preventive care at the centre of highway operations.

The campaign, introduced by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, mni, and implemented nationwide, involves the distribution of bottled water to motorists and passengers along major travel corridors. The initiative aims to reduce fatigue, dehydration and stress—key factors that often impair driver alertness and contribute to road crashes during long-distance festive journeys.

Speaking on the life-saving intent of the programme, the Corps Marshal emphasised that road safety extends beyond enforcement. He noted that an alert and refreshed driver is a safer driver, adding that if a simple gesture such as providing water can help preserve lives, then it is a responsibility the Corps must uphold.
Road users who benefited from the exercise described it as unprecedented and deeply thoughtful, applauding the FRSC for going beyond routine enforcement to demonstrate genuine care for Nigerians on the move. Many noted that the gesture eased tension on the highways, boosted morale, and strengthened public trust in the Corps.

Beyond providing relief, the water distribution exercise also doubled as a road safety sensitisation platform. FRSC personnel engaged motorists on the dangers of speeding, fatigue-driving, overloading and reckless behaviour—factors that historically account for a spike in crashes during festive periods.

The Yuletide Free Water Campaign has since attracted widespread public admiration, reinforcing FRSC’s reputation as a proactive, people-centred and life-saving institution committed to innovative safety interventions.
As festive travels continue nationwide, the Federal Road Safety Corps has reassured Nigerians of its unwavering commitment to safer roads and safer journeys, while urging all motorists to remain patient, alert and law-abiding.
The FRSC reaffirmed that its presence on Nigerian highways goes beyond traffic regulation—it is fundamentally about protecting lives.
