Plan International Nigeria on Tuesday 2nd December 2025, hosted Her Royal Majesty, Olori Atuwatse III, in a strategic visit that underscored renewed national commitment to advancing gender equality, strengthening advocacy, and expanding opportunities for girls across the country.

Her Majesty was received at the Plan’s International Country Office in Abuja by the Country Director, Charles Usie, alongside members of the senior leadership team. During the visit, she held high-level discussions with representatives of the Girls Get Equal movement and a member of Plan International Nigeria’s Board, Ms. Pelemo Nyajo, engaging in thoughtful and inspiring conversations centred on empowerment, leadership, and the rights of girls in Nigeria.

Olori Atuwatse III also toured the office and interacted with staff, gaining firsthand knowledge of the organisation’s programmes designed to ensure that girls can learn, lead, decide, and thrive without discrimination or violence. The exchanges highlighted ongoing interventions to challenge harmful norms, expand educational access, prevent gender-based violence, and support girls’ participation in decision-making spaces.
Speaking during the visit, officials of Plan International Nigeria described the engagement as a significant step in strengthening aligned efforts between traditional leadership and civil society in safeguarding the future of Nigerian girls. “This is more than a courtesy call. It is a partnership opportunity to accelerate change,” one senior staff member said.

Paradigm News International noted that observers of the visit said that Olori Atuwatse III’s presence comes at a time of increasing focus on national and global advocacy, including the GirlsGetEqual campaign and this year’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. The visit is expected to bolster collaborative initiatives aimed at dismantling systemic barriers facing girls, while reinforcing messages of inclusion, equality, and accountability.

The organisation maintains that sustained partnerships across communities, institutions, and cultural networks remain crucial in ensuring that every girl has the freedom to dream and the support to realise her potential.
