Partnership and Innovation Propel Nigeria’s Gender Data Transformation.

By Raymond Enoch

A conglomerate of international and regional partners from Germany, Switzerland, and the United Nations system has joined forces with Nigeria to advance gender equality through an innovative, data-driven initiative.

The event which is hosted from November 4th to 6th 2025, brought the development partners together to expand the existing National Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Dashboard into a comprehensive National Gender Data Platform.

The initiative is led by GIZ Nigeria and ECOWAS, in collaboration with ECOWAS CEDEAO, UNDP, UN Women, and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). It is supported by the Data Service Center (DSC) of FMB Germany, BMZ’s Data2Policy Initiative, and the FAST Global Project — demonstrating a united effort to strengthen gender data systems and foster inclusive policymaking.

The enhanced National Gender Data Platform aims to integrate gender-related indicators across education, economic empowerment, skills development, and the inclusion of women and vulnerable groups. This collaborative effort is designed to provide policymakers and development stakeholders with reliable, evidence-based insights that can inform policies to promote gender equality and social inclusion across Nigeria.

Implemented under the Skills Development for Youth Employment (SKYE II) project, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and co-funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the initiative reflects the growing synergy between global expertise and local innovation.

Through a feminist, data-to-policy approach, experts from Germany and Nigeria are co-creating an integrated gender data system that aligns with Sustainable Development Goals 5 and 17 — Gender Equality and Partnerships for the Goals.

Partnership, innovation, and shared vision are driving the transformation of gender data in Nigeria, setting a benchmark for inclusive development and evidence-based governance across the West African region.
