WACSI Celebrates 20 Years, Strengthens Ties with ECOWAS for Regional Development

As part of its 20th anniversary celebration, the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) is set to host a week-long Civil Society Week in Accra, spotlighting two decades of impact in promoting good governance, civic participation, and regional integration. The event also coincides with the broader ECOWAS @ 50 commemorations, creating a unique platform to reflect on the evolving role of civil society in West Africa’s development.

In recognition of this milestone, Ambassador Abdel-Fatau Musah, ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace & Security, has accepted an invitation extended to him by WACSI to deliver the keynote address during the celebration. His participation reflects the growing synergy between ECOWAS and civil society organizations in shaping inclusive regional policies.

During a recent meeting with WACSI leadership, Ambassador Musah emphasized the crucial role of civil society in advancing democratic governance, sustainable development, and peacebuilding efforts across the sub-region. He also expressed strong support for deeper collaboration between ECOWAS institutions and civil society actors to tackle shared regional challenges.

This renewed engagement underscores ECOWAS’s commitment to enhancing citizen participation and fostering partnerships that contribute to long-term regional stability and prosperity. WACSI’s anniversary is expected to serve as a vital forum for strategic dialogue, networking, and coordinated action among civil society leaders and stakeholders.
