TCN Begins Annual Maintenance at Ajaokuta 330/132kV Substation, Kogi Communities Face 5-Hour Outage By Raymond Enoch

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the commencement of its annual preventive maintenance exercise at the 330/132kV Ajaokuta Transmission Substation, with electricity supply expected to be interrupted for five hours in parts of Kogi State.

The exercise is scheduled for Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 10am to 3pm, according to a notice issued by the management of TCN on Monday, August 31, 2026.

TCN said the maintenance is necessary to enable its technical crew carry out critical work on the bay switchgear and associated equipment on the 132kV Ajaokuta Transmission Line 1.

The planned intervention will, however, have a direct impact on electricity distribution to several communities within the coverage area of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

According to TCN, AEDC will be unable to off-take electricity to customers in Adogo, Anyigba, Ganaja and adjoining areas throughout the duration of the maintenance exercise.

The development is expected to temporarily affect households, businesses and other electricity-dependent activities in the affected communities as the transmission facility is taken out of service to allow engineers safely execute the scheduled maintenance.

TCN, however, assured electricity consumers that the disruption would be temporary, stressing that power supply will be restored immediately after the maintenance exercise is completed.

The annual preventive maintenance forms part of efforts by the transmission company to maintain critical infrastructure, improve network reliability and ensure the continued safe operation of its transmission facilities.

While appealing for the understanding of affected electricity consumers, TCN apologised for the inconvenience the exercise may cause.

The company urged customers within the affected areas to make necessary arrangements ahead of the scheduled five-hour maintenance window.
