Outstanding Service to Humanity: Lions Club Honours FCT Education Chiefs as Digital Library Revolution Takes Off in Abuja By Raymond Enoch
The Abuja Mega Lions Club has honoured the FCT Mandate Secretary for Education, Danlami Hayyo, and the Director of the FCT Education Resource Centre, Neemat Daud Abdulrahim, with Automatic Lions Membership in recognition of their outstanding support for humanitarian service and educational development in the Federal Capital Territory.
The honour was bestowed during the commissioning of the newly upgraded Digital Library at the FCT City Library, a landmark intervention executed by the Abuja Mega Lions Club in partnership with the FCT Education Resource Centre (ERC).
The project, designed to strengthen digital learning, research, innovation, and access to information, is expected to significantly enhance educational opportunities for students, educators, and members of the public across the FCT.
Speaking at the event, representative of the District Governor, Ezekiel Umoh, said the recognition was in appreciation of the exceptional cooperation and prompt support provided by the two education administrators, whose commitment ensured the successful delivery of the project.
He noted that approvals for the intervention were granted without unnecessary delays, enabling the club to complete and commission the facility on schedule.
According to him, such responsiveness demonstrated a rare commitment to partnership, development, and service to humanity.
“The request for this intervention received immediate attention despite the bureaucratic procedures often associated with government institutions. Their support made it possible for this project to be delivered successfully and on time,” he said.
Umoh commended the leadership of the FCT Education Secretariat and the Education Resource Centre for their active engagement throughout the implementation process, describing the induction of the two officials into the Lions family as a fitting tribute to their dedication to educational advancement and community development.
He further stressed that the Abuja Mega Lions Club remains committed to complementing government efforts through impactful humanitarian interventions.
“Government cannot do it alone. Humanitarian organisations have a critical role to play in supporting public institutions and delivering meaningful projects that improve lives and strengthen communities,” he added.
Earlier, President of the Abuja Mega Lions Club, Charles Bassey, revealed that the club had adopted the theme “Service Beyond Today” for the 2025/2026 service year.
He explained that the theme reflects the club’s commitment to sustainability and long-term impact, ensuring that humanitarian projects continue to benefit communities for years to come.
Bassey said the philosophy guided the club’s decision to undertake a comprehensive needs assessment before embarking on the digital library project.
He noted that the club identified an urgent need for a modern digital learning environment capable of promoting literacy, research, innovation, and access to knowledge in an increasingly technology-driven world.
“Education remains one of the most powerful tools for societal transformation. This intervention is aimed at expanding opportunities for learning and creating a platform where ideas can be transformed into action,” he stated.
In their separate acceptance speeches, Dr. Hayyo and Dr. Abdulrahim expressed profound appreciation to the Abuja Mega Lions Club for both the recognition and its investment in educational development.
They praised the organisation’s commitment to humanitarian service and described the intervention as a major boost to teaching, learning, and research activities within the Federal Capital Territory.
The officials particularly commended the club for renovating and modernising the Digital Library, providing electrical infrastructure, sponsoring a one-year internet subscription, and installing bag shelves for library users.
According to them, the project will expand access to digital learning resources while improving the overall learning environment for students, researchers, educators, and members of the public.
They also assured stakeholders that the facilities would be properly maintained to guarantee their sustainability and long-term benefits.
Both officials expressed delight at their induction into the prestigious humanitarian organisation and pledged continued support for initiatives that promote education, community development, and human welfare.
They encouraged more individuals and organisations to embrace humanitarian service, noting that efforts aimed at creating opportunities and improving lives remain essential to national development.
The commissioning of the upgraded Digital Library and the induction of the two education leaders underscore the growing synergy between government institutions and humanitarian organisations in advancing sustainable educational development and empowering future generations through technology-driven learning.
