The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), felicitates with Muslims in Nigeria and across the world on the successful completion of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr.

According to a statement made available, CAN Northern Nigeria underscores the significant of the spiritual insight and said its rewarding to every faithful, especially those who embrace the teachings as instructed in the Holy Books.

For many, the festival is a reminder of the values ingrained during the holy month—sacrifice, compassion, and gratitude. This is a time when Muslims extend goodwill to their neighbors, family, and even strangers, through acts of charity and kindness. The essence of Sallah, however, extends beyond the feasts and prayers. It is a time when Muslims give back to society, contributing to the well-being of those less fortunate and reinforcing the bonds that hold the community together.

In a related development the statement of the Northern CAN notes the recent tragedy in Uromi, Edo State saying that the tragic killings of 16 travelers in the region have brought sorrow to families and the entire nation. CAN representing Christians across 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), expressed its profound condolences and solidarity with the grieving families.

The Association’s heartfelt message, issued today speaks to the shared grief and the need for healing during such challenging times.

The organization condems the senseless violence, stressing that this act of brutality undermines the very principles of humanity. The loss of innocent lives has reignited painful memories of past tragedies, and the call for peace and justice grows louder with every passing day. CAN’s statement calls for an end to the senseless violence that continues to plague the nation and urges Nigerians to refrain from acts of vengeance that could fuel further divisions and chaos.

The impact of this tragedy on the Muslim community, now observing the blessings of Eid, has not been lost on the leadership of CAN. As both Christians and Muslims grieve, the message of unity and peace becomes even more urgent. In the face of such devastating loss, CAN has appealed for restraint, urging Nigerians to focus on rebuilding trust and solidarity, transcending religious and ethnic lines. The call to reject divisive rhetoric that seeks to create fault lines between communities has never been more pertinent.

The government, security agencies, and all citizens are urged to stand together in ensuring that justice prevails for the victims of the Uromi killings. CAN has called for a swift and transparent investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice, emphasizing that only through justice can the healing process truly begin.

As the Northern States join their Muslim counterparts in celebrating Eid, the prayers of peace and healing resonate across the region. The message from CAN is clear—true unity lies not in vengeance but in forgiveness, understanding, and mutual respect. The tragedy of Uromi serves as a painful reminder of the importance of a cohesive society, where all Nigerians, irrespective of their faith or background, can live in harmony and security.

In the spirit of Eid and the message of peace it carries, this is a moment for all to reflect on the importance of unity in the face of adversity. As the nation continues to mourn and heal, let the essence of Sallah—sacrifice, charity, and renewal—guide Nigeria towards a future of justice, peace, and shared prosperity.
