NIMC Reviews Service Fees Products, advances Reasons. By Raymond Enoch
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced a comprehensive review of its service fees, effective May 2, 2025. This move aligns with the Commission’s ongoing efforts to modernize Nigeria’s identity infrastructure and enhance service delivery.
In a statement released on May 2, NIMC disclosed that the new fee structure would apply to various services, including National Identification Number (NIN) modifications, card renewals, and replacements. The Commission emphasized that these adjustments are part of a broader strategy to ensure the sustainability and efficiency of its operations.
Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, the Director-General/CEO of NIMC, highlighted that the fee review is a necessary step to support the Commission’s digital transformation initiatives. “As we advance towards a more digitized identity ecosystem, it’s imperative that our fee structure reflects the value and security our services provide,” she stated.
The fee adjustments come at a time when NIMC has achieved significant milestones, including the enrollment of over 115 million Nigerians into the National Identity Database and the clearance of a two-year backlog of payments owed to Front-End Partners. These achievements underscore the Commission’s commitment to improving service delivery and expanding access to identity services across the country.
In addition to the fee review, NIMC is set to launch a new payment-enabled electronic ID card in the first quarter of 2025. The card will offer multiple functionalities, including secure digital identity verification, payment capabilities, and integration with government services, aiming to enhance financial inclusion and streamline access to public services.
The Commission has assured the public that the new fee structure will be transparent and accessible, with detailed information available through official channels. NIMC has also cautioned its partners and service providers against overbilling, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the approved fee guidelines to maintain trust and integrity in the identity management system.
As Nigeria continues to embrace digital solutions for governance and service delivery, NIMC’s proactive approach in reviewing its service fees reflects a commitment to building a robust and sustainable identity management framework that meets the evolving needs of the Nigerian populace.
