NIMC Enrols 59,786 Inmates as Ward-Level Identity Drive Takes Center Stage.

In a bold push for national inclusion, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has enrolled 59,786 inmates in correctional centres across Nigeria into the National Identification Number (NIN) database.
This milestone was disclosed in a press release signed by Dr. Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, and highlights the Commission’s commitment to inclusivity as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Achieved in collaboration with the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), the initiative ensures that all Nigerians and legal residents — regardless of status — are captured in the national identity system.
As of now, 74% of the country’s inmate population has been issued NINs, with efforts continuing to complete the remaining enrolments. NIMC credited the success of the initiative to the steadfast support of the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Comptroller-General of the NCoS, Mr. Nwakuche Ndidi, and correctional service personnel nationwide.
According to Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, Director General/CEO of NIMC, the project reflects the Commission’s dedication to ensuring that no Nigerian is left behind. “We are committed to reaching every ward, every citizen, and every legal resident with a valid identity,” she stated.
Building on this momentum, NIMC is set to begin ward-level enrollment across the country, further advancing the goal of a truly inclusive and digitally verifiable identity infrastructure.
