NIMC Cracks Down on NIN Fraud: Warns Against Unauthorized Modifications, Reaffirms Zero Tolerance for Misconduct.

By Raymond Enoch

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued a stern warning against fraudulent activities related to the modification of National Identification Number (NIN) data, emphasizing its zero-tolerance policy for misconduct.

In a recent statement, NIMC clarified that all NIN data modifications must be processed exclusively through its official self-service modification portal: selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng. The Commission categorically dismissed reports alleging that some enrolment agents in Abuja were collecting money from applicants to falsify dates of birth, reiterating that no physical modifications are permitted and that it does not authorize agents to alter data on behalf of applicants.

Dr. Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, stated, “All NIN data modifications are processed strictly through the official self-service modification portal. NIMC operates a zero-tolerance policy for extortion, falsification, or any form of misconduct by staff or licensed Front-End Partners.”

The Commission has urged NIN holders to adhere strictly to approved statutory procedures and to report any cases of extortion or unethical practices through its official complaint channels:

Reassuring Nigerians of the integrity of the National Identity Database, NIMC emphasized its commitment to strengthening transparency, accountability, and public trust in the nation’s identity management system.
