Succeeding Portugal, which chaired the process in 2024, Nigeria officially took over on January 30, 2025, during a Senior Officials Meeting in Porto.
This marks the first time Nigeria is leading the initiative, which includes 57 partner countries, the European Union, and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The Rabat Process serves as a critical framework for cooperation between Europe and Africa on migration policies, addressing challenges such as mobility, human trafficking, and development.
Nigeria’s chairmanship signals its commitment to fostering meaningful dialogue, strengthening migration governance, and ensuring shared progress among partner nations.
The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons ( NCFR) is at the forefront of Nigeria’s efforts to drive impactful migration policies during its tenure.
