In a strategic diplomatic engagement, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, PhD, welcomed Dr. Robert Floyd, the Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), to the ministry headquarters in Abuja on Monday.

The high-level meeting underscored Nigeria’s enduring commitment to global peace, disarmament, and the multilateral frameworks guiding nuclear non-proliferation. Discussions focused on strengthening Nigeria’s cooperation with the CTBTO, capacity-building support, and ensuring the effective implementation of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) across the region.
Ambassador Ahmed commended Dr. Floyd’s leadership and reaffirmed Nigeria’s unwavering support for the CTBT, describing it as a cornerstone of global nuclear disarmament architecture. “Nigeria remains fully aligned with the principles and objectives of the CTBT. Our partnership with the CTBTO will continue to play a critical role in promoting international security and stability,” he said.
Dr. Floyd, in his remarks, acknowledged Nigeria’s influential voice in the African Union and global disarmament fora. He highlighted the critical importance of Nigeria’s role in advancing the entry-into-force of the CTBT and enhancing regional verification mechanisms.

This visit marks a renewed chapter in Nigeria’s relationship with the CTBTO, reaffirming its role as a proactive voice in nuclear governance and a regional leader in peace diplomacy. Dr. Floyd’s visit is part of a broader African tour aimed at galvanizing support for the universalization and implementation of the CTBT.
