By Raymond Enoch
As Nigerians joins the global community in celebrating Valentine’s Day, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) FCT, led by Chairperson Bassey Ita Ikpang, has issued a strong advisory to adolescents, particularly young girls in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its suburbs, emphasizing the importance of safety and making informed decisions during the celebrations.
In a heartfelt message, Mrs. Bassey highlighted the need for self-care, reminding young people that true love begins with valuing oneself and prioritizing well-being.
While acknowledging Valentine’s Day as a time of kindness, joy, and affection, she warned against risky behaviors that could compromise their health and their future.
“Love should uplift and empower you, not put you at risk,” Mrs. Bassey stated, urging adolescents to remain in safe environments and seek guidance when needed.
She advised them to make decisions that protect their physical, emotional, and mental health, emphasizing that responsible celebrations lead to a promising future.
As a media HIV advocate, Mrs. Bassey reaffirmed NAWOJ’s commitment to advocating for the rights and safety of young girls. She issued a strong caution:
Say no to gender-based violence. Love should never come at the cost of your safety and well-being.
She encouraged young people to celebrate with wisdom, self-respect, and confidence while prioritizing their dignity.
She wished all adolescents a happy and safe Valentine’s Day, urging them to stay informed and make choices that support their health and future.
