The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced a major traffic diversion and partial movement restriction across parts of Lafia, the state capital, ahead of a high-level presidential visit scheduled to take place between Tuesday, June 24, and Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

In a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the Command stated that the movement restrictions will be in effect from 6:00 PM today, Tuesday, to 6:00 PM tomorrow, Wednesday, to enable the implementation of robust security arrangements ahead of the President’s arrival.

According to the statement, traffic flow will be significantly altered in the following ways:

Vehicles entering Lafia from the Akwanga axis will be diverted at Mechanic Village, Azuba, through the bypass to Akurba, Mararaba Akunza, and then to Makurdi Road.

Vehicles from the Makurdi direction will be rerouted at Bukan Kwato–Mararaba Akunza to connect through Akurba and Azuba.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, said the decision to redirect traffic was informed by the need to ensure maximum security and a hitch-free experience during the President’s visit, which is expected to involve sensitive locations and high-profile engagements within Lafia.

“These temporary measures are not designed to cause inconvenience,” said CP Mohammed, “but are essential to safeguard lives, property, and the integrity of this significant state event.”

The Commissioner added that security personnel have been strategically deployed to man diversion points and escort movements along designated routes. He urged the public to remain calm, cooperate fully, and comply with all directives from law enforcement agents on duty.

Residents and commuters are advised to plan their journeys in advance and use the designated alternative routes to minimize delays.

While the Command expressed regret over any inconvenience the diversion may cause, it reiterated that the public’s support and understanding are crucial to ensuring the safety of all during the Presidential engagement.

This visit is expected to attract dignitaries, draw public attention, and mark an important political and developmental milestone for Nasarawa State, making tight security not just necessary but indispensable.
